“A healthy mind in a healthy body”

Keeping this in mind at SDIS, we encourage a number of sports activities. We lay a strong emphasis on sports and physical development of our students. Every week two periods are compulsorily allotted to physical education. Our sports curriculum is planned and designed for students to develop and enhance skills like strength, speed, endurance, flexibility, control and balance etc. sports today has also evolved as a form of entertainment and also offers promising careers.

We believe in mass participation, exposing our students to a number of sports events at inter-school, state, national and international level. Every student is encouraged to join at least one school sports team. Professional swimming and athletic coaches are available to train the students and ensure that they become ace performers. The P.E. teachers we employ are young and energetic with a good amount of expertise in sports and provide coaching for sports like football, basketball, cricket, volleyball, kho-kho, kabbadi, skating and swimming etc.

For the students to know the benefits of the sports they play, they are informed about the body parts and muscles development in playing each sport along with the game knowledge.

In fact though the school is about twelve years old our students have won laurels in Khel-Mahakumbh competitions in Football, Chess, Table-Tennis, Basketball, Cricket, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Kabbadi, Skating and in various Athletics events.

Football provides a variety of challenges that test and help to build a player’s perseverance. Every child’s fantasy begins with being the next Lionel Messi. Football is the most popular sport and every child must have that experience. We have dedicated football fields along with guiding tutoring.

Regular swimming can help students to enhance their focus and capability to retain memories which helps a lot to excel in academics. Swimming has been on a rise with a huge number of Indians performing at National and International tournaments all across the nation. It is an all-around activity that includes muscular development, body and mind coordination, making a student endurable and fit.

Basketball is a sport that is enjoyed by millions across the globe, and for young kids I n particular, it’s a great way to help them sharpen their hand-eye coordination, develop team building skills and get plenty of exercise to boot. Basketball adds on to the development of a child’s mind, tolerance, coordination and most importantly imparts a sense of rigor. Like any other sports, even basketball counts for a lot of practice and dedication.

Volleyball is all about hand-eye coordination. When you serve, you must follow the ball with your eyes, and strike the ball at the right point. Playing volleyball enhances your energy level and improves your overall performance in other sports and workouts Volleyball is a sport that requires teamwork and coordination. Children learn to work in a team, take responsibility and trust their teammates.

Activities like marathons, races, long jump etc are all a part of athletics which boost the morale of our students to try harder with better preparations every time they perform. These activities stretch their abilities and enhance their stamina, muscle tone and have a number of physical benefits.

Often known as a game for the intellectually gifted, Chess is one of the best sports to exercise the brain. Playing chess results in better brain function, improve memory and cognitive abilities, strategic thinking and attention improvement. Scientists also claim that playing chess can improve mental age by up to 14 years.

Table tennis

Table tennis help you build strength, speed and agility without risking serious injury. Like most sports, table tennis offers great mind-body stimulation, aerobic exercise, and social interaction. It helps in improving hand-eye coordination. An intense game of table tennis stimulates mental alertness and concentration and develops mental activity.

Playing kho-kho keeps children well, strong, motivated, enthusiastic and young. It helps in better coordination and flexibility. Kho-kho helps the children to off depression, anxiety and stress and increase self-esteem. It develops team spirit and leadership skills.

Playing sports like kabaddi is a good way to relieve stress and depression among children. Games like kabaddi are an awesome route for youngsters to learn fundamental life aptitudes that will serve them in later life, for example, collaboration and cooperation with their team.
