| Children at SDIS experience a highly stimulating education which is both broad and balanced, offering a full range of linguistic, mathematical, scientific, technological, human and social, physical and aesthetic and creative disciplines. In addition to the curriculum taught within school hours the wide choice of extra-curricular activities allows children to further their interests and show other talents.
We follow the CISCE curriculum while aiming to expand its scope substantially. While subjects have their own distinct areas of skills and knowledge we try to make learning more meaningful to children by incorporating themes across curriculum areas. Kindergarten Curriculum In Early Years the Stepping Stones Curriculum supporting the Early Learning Goals is complemented by Montessori practice. Our kindergarten aims to nurture each child’s potential, through love, care and encouragement. The early years have a crucial influence on later development and learning. Early childhood foundation makes a great difference to the future achievement of children. Whether our children become self-motivated learners and face the world with confidence, depends to a great extent on the stimulation, guidance and nurturing they receive early in life. Our kindergarten education aims to promote a love for leaning. Children are encouraged to become independent learners with a whole range of skills to ensure that a firm foundation is built for the next stage of learning. On transfer to Reception children continue to build on their Foundation Stage profile. Children are under the care of a class teacher who delivers Literacy, Numeracy, and Humanities; children are introduced to further subjects through specialist teaching in Music, Technology, PE, and Art is implicit in all areas of the curriculum. This approach continues from Nursery to Sr.K.G. Extra curricular activities include P.E. classes. The P.E. teacher plans exercises, which help in developing their gross and fine motor skills. Enrichment classes further reinforce concepts taught in class through various hands on activities. Music and dance lessons help to develop a sense of rhythm and love for these arts. The child’s innate curiosity is ignited in his early years and he develops a love for learning which gives him a great head start in our kindergarten. Primary Curriculum From class I to IV the subjects taught are English (Literature and Language), Hindi, Maths, Science, Social Science, G.K., Moral Value, Computer Application, Music, Drama and SUPW. Care is taken to ensure that learners acquire the right attitude that will prepare them for the future, enabling them to acquire skills and knowledge in their journey ahead. As a first step in this direction, we prepare them with a solid foundation in Verbal and Numerical skills. More so, we emphasize on total communication; i.e.; to communicate effectively through active exercises in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Some of the Unique features of our curriculum are Karate,Yoga, Art & Craft, Music & Dance (similar to classes learned at Dance Studios), Choice of second languages like Hindi and CCA - co-curricular activities. We have also devised a system of self-development and grooming through a list of Essential Agreements. For example, listening when others speak, speaking in our indoor voice, giving each other space etc. The primary curriculum equips learners to confidently face this challenging World - to think, to dream, and to be prepared for the years ahead. Secondary Curriculum From class V the subjects taught are English(Literature and Language), Hindi(Second Language), Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Civics, Geography, Sanskrit (Third Language-class V to VIII), G.K., Moral Value, Computer Application, Music, Drama and SUPW. Apart from the prescribed syllabi, the student has a variety of co-curricular & extra- curricular activities to choose from. Every child is unique and has some or other skills which can be polished and refined and the school provides ample opportunities to do so. At every level we pursue excellence and encourage the students to achieve to the utmost of their ability and to excel. Additional Subjects Socially Useful Productive Work(SUPW) and Community Work The nature of the curriculum and co-curriculum, combined with small class sizes and specialist teaching offers children a range of opportunities to learn and make the best progress of which they are capable. This includes the acquisition of skills in speaking and listening, literacy and numeracy. We take a holistic approach to teaching considering carefully the importance of all the different facets of learning, in particular social development alongside academic, while ensuring each child’s physical and emotional welfare is secure. Our aspirations for children at SDIS are that they are confident and well rounded, and above all happy, with the capabilities necessary to succeed in their future life and learning. |
